That is part of the challenge this year

Keep in mind that the bumper perimeter is defined as "the polygon defined by the outer-most set of
exterior vertices on the ROBOT". Along with the other bumper rules (which you should read and fully comprehend!), this means you can have gaps that allow balls to enter inside your bumper perimeter, then use whatever mechanism you design there to manipulate the ball.
