More specifically, it seems that they're using the 5GHz band for Wireless-n. If they were using the 2.4GHz band, it would actually interfere _more_ with wireless G, due to the wider frequency use (which helps N signals get their advantages).

I'd say they chose 5GHz so that teams can still use 2.4GHz for Wifi systems, etc., especially considering many venues will have 2.4GHz band Wifi installed already, and would possibly cause interference. Not to mention that the 2.4GHz generally has a ton of interference in its vicinity from untold numbers of electronics (Bluetooth, etc.).

Of course, I'd still check. There were rules from previous years on this, and I believe there's a rule on using such wireless equipment, at least, in the arena. Don't quote me on that, of course.
