In order to view the camera by typing its address into a browser your computer will have to be on the same subnet (default gateway/default router) as the camera. IP addressing can be thought of like the postal system. Think of your network as an office building and the IP of the devices as your personal mailbox in the office building. In order for anything to actually get to you, the package will have to be addressed to the building (default gateway) and then forwarded to your exact mailbox in the building (IP of the device).
