I will gladly put our wooden chassis up against any metal chassis this year, and with the exception of possibly a couple teams, I guarantee our chassis will be stiffer and probably lighter. Wood when used properly, and when quality wood is used is incredibly strong and far lighter than aluminum (~1/7 density of aluminum). Our chassis was built with tongue and groove construction and all joints were glued using high quality boat building epoxy. We also used a highly specialized okoume plywood. Needless to say wood can work and in my opinion is the ultimate material for a drivetrain.
