The only failures we have ever had with the drill gearboxes have been the housings cracking (from poor design of the mouting mainly) or the posts on the powered metal part that functions as the carrier for the planets on the last stage (which we never use any more since we use DrJoesDrillShaft if we have to use the transmissions at all).

Other folks may have other failures to report.
