They sure did. Our sheet metal was done by our sponsor Innovation First at their sheet metal facility in Greenville, Tx, which also happens to be the hope of Team 148. After working closely with Teams 148 and 217, and seeing the amazing sheet metal work on their robots, we decided to jump on board. The entire experience has been amazing for our team, as it opened our students and mentors to a totally new world of design. The entire super structure is made of 0.063 Al, and weighs only ~16 pounds.

Well, we actually wanted to powder coat the superstructure Simbot Red, but we went with black to ensure maximum visibility of the Orbit Balls. Plus, it's pretty neat having a robot that looks like it was made out of a VEX field.

We were wondering if anyone would notice that.

For those who asked about the lens, it's general purpose fisheye lens, that's commonly used on "peepholes" in doors.

Special thanks to all the teams who we discussed with and inspired us throughout the build season, including 148, 217, 254, 1503, 2056, 2166 & 2809. Part of what makes this program unique are the close bonds that are formed between competitors, and we definitely have these bonds with each of you.

We absolutely cannot wait for Midwest to play with all the great teams who are attending and to finally find out what Lunacy is really all about.

Getcha popcorn ready...
