Our site,
AdamBots.com, has a similar message and the only reason we have it is just to warn users that their site experience will not be the same if they use an up-to-date browser that is compliant with all standards. IE6 renders almost every page of our site differently which can't really be fixed with a stylesheet, so I've decided to just let users know.
My personal opinion is that you should keep the message if the user is going to have a different experience than someone using Firefox would.
