Our arm was just a liniear slide rail bolted together to the right length with a small to large gear doing the lifting (on a motor of course pretty simple but effective)

YAY won 6 out of 8 New Zealand VEX competitions!  (and only killed Three servos in the process)
 at least we made the semis 
Its not a hole its a controlled leak...
