In the 5th grade, I knew I wanted to be a CS major. I was basically a CS freak all the way through high school and still am a little bit today. However, last summer I realized that CS was not what I wanted to do -- professionally. I am really interested in the field, but I could not do it every day as a profession. For me, it seems too repetitive and not to exciting. I had a job last summer in the field and was bored out of my mind.
Just recently, I realized that mechanical engineering is much closer to what I wanted to do. With mechanical engineering, you won't necessarily ever be doing the same type of project twice, and you constantly get to work on different things. I do not know what type of job I will end up, but whatever it is, I know I will enjoy what I am doing. My advice is to pay very careful attention to your instinct. I kept on telling myself for the longest time that CS was for me, but all along I knew in my gut that I was more interested in mechanical engineering.

: Greetings!
: As a graduating High School Senior I've got a fairly big life decision ahead of me in picking a college (I believe I have it narrowed down to Purdue or Virginia Tech), but that aside I also have the -bigger- choice of what to do with the rest of my life. And to be honest at this point, its pretty much all up in the air for me. Besides FIRST, I'm involved in so many other things, that the list of things that interest me or I enjoy doing is so large its no help trying to narrow things down. So, in the spirit the 'Career' forum I'm asking everyone out there for some input.
: What fields in everyone in, and where do you think that field is going? Also, what helped influence you to pick the major/field you did?
: Like I said, I'm really still open to just about anything right now, and would like ANY advice that those who have been through this can give me, as all I know right now is I plan to be involved with FIRST as long as I'm still breathing, no matter WHAT I decide to do.
: Thanks a TON guys!
