I guess I'm just resistant to this change upon the basis that I'd estimate that most teams get what they want out of the current DS already. The cool, nifty brainstormed ideas we have for next year are mostly based upon what we have learned about the data interfacing from this year. Changing the setup means that there is additional complexity added to what we may or may not want to do next year, which is already complicated.

I agree, most of the possible arguments I could present have ways to design around them (increased latency to the display, data corruption by the netbook, deadlocks). Yet with the current DS we all already have something that works for every team who wants to do anything from the simplest of simplest to the (somewhat) intricately complicated.
