Update to NBD White Paper?

Hello all.

As part of our offseason activities, I was thinking on having some of the students tear into a DeWALT drill and build up an NBD style transmission. I've done a fair amount of research and found several helpful threads here on CD, but haven't yet stumbled across anything that I'd consider an "update" to the original NBD whitepaper. It was published in 2004 (5 years ago!), and the drills that were originally used are now out of production. Replacement parts can still be purchased for the older drills, but given the expense, it may be easiest for teams to buy a used DeWALT off craigslist, eBay, or find one elsewhere.

Does anyone have experience building an NBD style transmission with a drill other than one of those listed in the original whitepaper? Maybe we could start up a list of drills that work acceptably well (even other brands).
