Well there are two points here. 1) the cost of the program. Almost every team has had to struggle at some point to get funding. Just the registration fee for two contests is enough to stop some from starting a team.
2) You know how Woody suggests that team members act "as if his/her grandmother was watching". Well, if the game stays like this, even the student's grandmother would not take the time to watch them on TV
