My personal opinion is that part of maturing (connected to the P part of GP) is being able to focus ones full attention on operating machinery without needing any form of background music, noise or other artificial stimuli.

When it's time to actually drive, take out the earphones/buds for 135 seconds. I suspect the driver will suffer no long-term ill-effects from being disconnected for that short of a period.
