Thanks for the input guys! I'm now in the middle of testing all other basic robot functionality, so any sort of vision stuff has been put on the back burner temporarily. Once I get back to it, I'll report back here with how things work out.

I've also developed my own ellipse detection that's specialized to only work with this year's target, so that's another thing I've got to try.
