The rule is 2 1/2 inch pool noodles. Your best bet is to go online and try to get some--or get another team to get some for you. You could also Q&A it to get an official answer--CD is not official.
As for the "radial projection of the corner", Figure 8-3 has what that should not look like. It needs to be filled with some form of pool noodle--either extend the two on the side into the corner, or place a vertical section in the corner and cover it.
