R-14 and R-15 are the pertinent rules in this matter. It appears that you require only to have the team number on each side of the robot. Otherwise, you are generally free to do whatever you wish with sponsor and school logos.
If you are looking for a lightweight covering to put logos on, I suggest foamcore. I don't know about other countries, but in Canada you can get black core that is pretty resilient in impact and relatively stiff. 1114's 2008 robot and 1006's 2009 robot both feature this material, which has some form of logo or design stuck onto the foamcore. If you are looking for a cheap source, see if anyone on your team has a friend in the picture framing business. The main benefits of this stuff are that it is cheap, easy to shape, and weighs next to nothing.
