The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett.
My favorite book. A historical fiction, if you're into that sort of thing 
1,017 pages paperback, I read it in less than a day.

Also, there is another book if you're looking for something inspirational...same author, but the book catalogues the story of Ross Peroux (he ran for president way back).
