Makes me think of something I read about James Cameron and the movie, Avatar - that he had the idea for a long time but had to wait for the technology to develop to the point that he could make the movie he wanted to make.

I wonder what else Dr. Flowers and members of the GDC have been tweaking and figuring out nuances for - for a few years. Worth the wait, I'll just bet.
