Re: Your Team's Logo

After the team spent nearly the entire build season batting around team names with the requirements myself and fellow mentor gave them, we finally went with one I mentioned in passing. Our requirements were to have something which we could build a theme around, including a chant, cheap costume for teammates that would standout, pit and banner layout, and finally a logo. We decided on Prometheus because it hit all those requirements fairly easily since we stuck to the greek and fire theme, except that we were still logoless. (And we found some awesomely cheap flaming welding hats that went with the theme and use them every year from now on. Another advantage is its easy to spot my students in a crowd with their head gear)

As we were putting the cover on our electronic box for last year's robot it became obvious there would be a great place for an image and so we gave the lexan to the other mentor's kid to airbrush a flaming orbit ball on. (This was Lunacy as our first year) He started with a flaming orbit ball and thought it was ugly and instead did a flaming red ball with a killer grin. We all liked it so much we decided to carry it forward as our logo from then on. This year one of our students even went so far as to make a paper mache head for a mascot which turned out great. We added it to our t-shirts this year as well, and decided that we'd have our mascot play whatever game we were playing.

Since we were a looper bot from the get-go and were playing soccer, that is how our Chester robot name came about, and how the t-shirt mascot/logo ended up with bouncing a ball off his chest. :-)
