We learned this the hard way last year.

A few of the higher ratios are capable of exceeding 85 ft-lbs of torque by a factor of 4 or more when a CIM is stalled. (calculations show that we may have put as much as 400ft-lbs of torque through a 256:1 gearbox)

For drive stuff they're alright, especially if you're not running high traction wheels and they seem useful for some manipulators as well, but if you even think you may exceed the 85 ft-lb warning you should look elsewhere...
