In my letter AT&T told me that they were building their own network just in case Excite@Home isn't given a grace period by the government. Without this grace period AT&T doesn't get enough time to purchase Excite@Home's assets, which would make its value next to nothing. If they don't get to purchase Excite@Home they will switch to their own network and our email addys will end with attbi.com instead of home.com. For example
joelster@attbi.com would be my email address not
joelster@home.com. I don't really like it, but on the other hand I only care about speed.
