All that is really needed is a mobile version of the site (maybe just the forums portion of the site) that provides a little better layout for use on a small phone screen. All an app would be doing is taking the current stuff CD displays and displaying it a bit differently... and you'd have to write a different app for every mobile OS (blackberry, iOS, Windows mobile, Android, etc...). Doing it as a mobile site would get you 99% of the way there for everyone, all at once.
