As a former Administrative Assistant at FIRSTPlace which is a part of FIRST Headquarters, I can tell you in my knowledge they have had interns in the office before. I think one was in IT and the other one I'm not sure. I don't know how they got the job, or how you go about getting an internship yourself. But it's not surprising that it sounds like your emails are getting lost in the mass amounts they receive. You just have to be "graciously persistent" and hopefully it'll get through to the point where you can get an answer. I honestly don't know who in particular could really help you out just thinking of names. But depending on what exactly you want to do for an internship, I would try and find out the person at FIRST who is particularly in charge of that area of expertise (marketing, game design, volunteer management, IT, etc.) and dial their extensions directly and leave a message.

FIRSTPlace did used to do summer camps, but I'm not entirely sure if they are continuing in 2011. If they do, they usually hire 2 students to be paid lead counselors and the rest of the students that help out are unpaid volunteers. Just keep checking the website and if/when they announce it, contact FIRSTPlace and express your interest with being involved -- if you are interested of course.
