i would personally go with the old touch boxes(or some other transmission with a higher ratio) because they give more torque and that's needed when using a mechanum drive. as far as chaining or direct drive, my experience has made me go for the direct drive so you don't have to deal with chain and since this game isn't going to be terribly aggressive, i wouldn't worry about bending an axle. 1510 is going for a direct drive anyways.
