Do we have to use 3D studio max?

Do we absolutely have to use 3ds or can we use another program like blender or rhino 3d?

The rules say that you have to use an autodesk/kintex product while making your animation. Personally, I've never used Rhino that much, but from what I recall, it sucks at animation. But anyways, you've gotta use some autodesk product. I suppose you could get away with just using Inventor, but it's really implied that you should be using 3ds.

so in spirit of supporting FIRST and the freebies it gets, we should try to learn 3ds. for that matter, it's an awesome program.

but just so you know, if you were to use another program, they would never find out you did. but that wouldnt be graciously professioninnycaal.

3d studio max doesn't always save... make sure you always save twice as 2 separate files in case it doesn't work... otherwise you'll be upset... but our animatino still looks awesome.

Doesn't save? can't say I've ever had that happen to me before. Mind you, I've had plenty of cases of the user not saving and then doing something stupid. But 3DS has never failed to save for me. Mayhaps you're not running on good enough computer or the right operating system. You wouldn't believe how much better behaved 3DS is in NT 4.0. Plus you get to do that cool network rendering stuff, too.

Just my 2 cents.

Kevin
