IL regional - the day before
Posted by Clinton Hamilton at 03/20/2001 10:22 AM EST
Student on team #108, SigmaC@T, from Dillard High School and Motorola. Tomorrow's the day, I leave Ft. Lauderdale airport at 6:15 in the morning for the chilled air of Chicago. Can someone PLEASE suggest something to do on Wednesday. We're staying at the Sheraton Northshore which is in Northbrook. Travelling is not a problem as we have rental vans and I'm an excellent navigator (note to self : download mapopolis map of Chicago area to PDA) so long as I know approximately where I'm going. I'd love to meet up with some other teams but as I don't know the area, I don't know where to go. Just a quick look around the web I found a Gameworks in Schaumburg, there's DisneyQuest downtown, plus several other places that I didn't recognize the names of. Any suggestions? Ironically - we transfer planes in Philadelphia. I'll have to remember to look for arriving teams for the short time that we're there. But as were a Motorola team we must travel onward , after all it is the Motorola Midwest Regional. |

Engineer on team #111, WildStang, from Rolling Meadows / Wheeling HS and Motorola. There is a nice movie theater right next to it though, and a very large mall across the street. Some time at Gameworks followed by a movie or mall time is a prime way to waste $28.75 per head. Now that the weather is getting a little better, a walk around downtown Chicago is a little more feasible too. There are several museums downtown. The Aquarium is about a 1.5 mile walk from the Art Museum, and we all know how much students like to go to Art Museums. (Yeah, right) There's also a Science Museum worth visiting, from what I hear. IL regional - the day before

Other on team #112, NRO (New Robot Order), from John Hersey & Buffalo Grove and Motorola. It's on the south side of the city. It's totally awesome and not like a museum at all. Or, visit the Hancock Tower and take the elevators to the 96th floor for a good view of Chicago. If you go to the Hancock, stop by Shedd Aquariam or the Field Museum (which has the T-Rex Sue). The Shedd and Field are right next to each other. |
