Are we allowed to use spring-loaded pistons...?

They are legal if they follow all the rules for springs, and not be hooked up to the pneumatics in any way.

And they meet M11

M11 requires that the energy stored in the spring at the beginning of the match must be limited to a tiny amount (about 30 Joules) if it powers any mechanism on the robot.
