SCRRF 2/16 Sectional Competition

Greetings to all Robotics Teams
Here is an update on the 2003 SCRRF Sectional Competition on Sunday, February 16, at Chatsworth High School, from 8AM-4PM.

If you are planning on attending, please email me ASAP so we can schedule the matches.
wwooten@lausd.k12.ca.us

Directions to Chatsworth High School:
The school is located north of the 101 Fwy and south of the 118 Fwy. Take the DeSoto exit and travel south to Devonshire from the 118 or north to Lassen from the 101. Turn east and travel to Lurline Ave. Turn right from the 118 or left from the 101 and enter the school through the only parking lot located on Lurline. Travel straight into the school until you reach the gym on the right hand side where you may unload your robot. Then park anywhere in the parking lot.

The fee is $50 for teams that are members of SCRRF (there is a one time registration fee of $100, so if you have not joined yet, it will cost $150, and all subsequent events will be $50). It is $150 for all non-SCRRF teams that do not wish to join. Make checks out to CHSSEA and mail them to:
W. Wooten
21201 Celtic St.
Chatsworth, CA 91311

Registration and inspection will take place from 8 AM – 10 AM. We will have trained representatives from teams do a friendly inspection to help you identify possible violations that need to be corrected for Regionals. Teams will be allowed to participate in the matches as long as their robots are safe. The inspection is to help you prepare for Regionals. Teams should have 2 knowledgeable student reps available to answer questions for the inspectors.

Professional mentors including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and fabrication experts will be available to assist teams with repairs or problems they might be having with their robots. A full machine shop with welding and CNC vertical mill will be available to help teams with fabrication needs.

Each team will have a table in the pit area to work on their robot. Tethers must be used at all times. Radio controls can be used ONLY during the matches by competing teams. You must take your robot to the Robotics shop to do any grinding, drilling, etc. Please bring an extension cord to connect to the power strips which will be provided. Please mark all of your team tools and equipment, and put them in their proper places once you are finished using them.

A snack bar with very reasonable prices will be open for morning beverages, bagels, etc., as well as lunch (sandwiches, chips, cookies, fruit, drink) and snacks.

If your team would like to help with any of the jobs needed to put on the Sectional Competition, please contact me and I will sign you up to help.

We will be having a SCRRF meeting during the lunch break, 12 noon – 1 PM to discuss major fundraising activities. If you have a potential major sponsor that we can invite to the Regional as a VIP, please bring the contact info to the meeting.

Since we want all teams to have plenty of match experience and also see how the finals selection occurs, we will have single elimination in the finals, and teams that move on must alternate alliance partners. This will allow rookie teams to understand the process without taking up qualifying match time with finals so more teams get more matches.

We would like all teams to discuss gracious professionalism and appropriate behavior for all team members prior to the event. What the teams have accomplished, what the students have learned, what the professional mentors have shared with the students, the work ethic and camaraderie, the enthusiasm for math, science, and technology, these are the things that FIRST is all about, and the competition is a special day to show off these accomplishments. Let’s make everything about this event a model of gracious professionalism.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
