Two comments on previously listed shows:
1. Reading Rainbow was a good show, until I entered second grade and they started showing it to us. After that, it was interminable until I was released to middle school. They just never covered any sci-fi. For that matter, they never showed any book with more than forty pages. I was reading those things to second graders when I was in kindergarten. When I was your age *goes off mumbling*
2. *returns to topic* Voltron was only like Power Rangers in that the 'bots linked up. There was much more plot to Voltron. I was a fan of PR, for about three months. I didn't have much patience for stupidity when I was eight.
As for a show that is like Power Rangers, I submit Thundercats. It had the same feel to it, similar characters, and similar roles. The only stylistic differences are in the relative ages of the heroes and Power Rangers' overuse of roboticitry. Oh, yeah, and Thundercats was actually watchable.
