Successful Due to Affluence?

I apologize in advance for the length of this. -indieFan

Here is a bit of information about each of the schools from the Los Angeles Unified School District that made the list of 700+ schools including their rank on the list. All of the information on this thread was found using the links from the following page: http://search.lausd.k12.ca.us/cgi-bin/fccgi.exe. Out of 70 high schools in LAUSD, 30 of them made it onto the list. Note that there is no formula to a successful high school according to the following information.

10. Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies
- One of the few pure magnet schools in the district
- Single track
- No school based management (SBM), Title I, or charter
- Not LEARN based
- Students from most racial/ethnic backgrounds (Blacks are highest with 41%)

67. Foshay Learning Center
- School based management
- Year round (3 tracks)
- Title I (most students qualify for state subsidized meals)
- Predominately Hispanic and Black students

97. North Hollywood High School
- Contains several magnets within school, including Highly Gifted and Animal Studies/Bio Sciences magnets
- Year round (3 tracks)
- Title I and LEARN based
- No SBM or charter
- Predominately Hispanic (77%)

194. Palisades Charter HS
- Charter school, single track, SBM, LEARN
- No Title I
- Broad mix of racial backgrounds (Whites are highest with 43%)

270. King Drew Medical Magnet
- Pure magnet, single track
- No SBM, charter, Title I, or LEARN
- Predominately Black (73.5%)

313. Wilson High School (gives IB tests)
- Title I, LEARN, single track
- No SBM or charter
- Predominately Hispanic (90%)
- NOTE: Possibly the wrong Wilson HS since the list says it's in Hacienda Heights, but the information page I'm using says Los Angeles. HH is an area within Los Angeles. If anyone can confirm either way, I'd appreciate it.

320. Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies
- Pure magnet, single track, LEARN, Title I
- No SBM or charter
- Broad mix of racial backgrounds (Whites highest at 39.9%)

358. Granada Hills HS
- Math/Science Magnet, 1-yr charter (approved within last month), single track, SBM
- No Title I or LEARN
- Fairly broad mix of racial backgrounds (whites highest at 43.3%)
- NOTE: This is considered one of the top 3 high schools in LAUSD based on test scores.

359. Taft HS
- Single track, LEARN
- No Title I, SBM or Charter
- Broad mix (whites highest at 40.6%)

379. El Camino Real HS
- Single track, LEARN
- No Title I, SBM, or charter
- Predominately white (50.6%)

383. Venice HS

<edit> Sorry for the cross-posting. I decided that, due to the length and content, this message should be placed in its own thread rather than added to the existing thread about HS Rankings. Once I posted this in the General Forum, I then realized that it would have been more appropriate to have placed it within the Chit Chat Forum. I immediately sent PM's to Ken and Brandon asking either of them to remove the original message from the General Forum. Thanks for your patience. </edit>

i dont know that much about anything, but i think this could have been started in the thread already talking about it (High School Rankings ) and the second thing, why does this need to be in BOTH the chit chat forum, and the General Forum ?

In the original thread about HS Rankings, T. Hoffman wrote:

"I'd truly love to see a list of the most successful high schools whose hallways weren't paved with gold, whose teachers and administrators were at a significant disadvantage due to inadequate resources, and whose student population was filled with a higher percentage of troubled/misguided youth. Those schools who manage to do more with less - the ones who can turn not only the well-mannered but also the troubled, the poor, and the forgotten into college students - THOSE are the schools I'd consider the best in the nation, because they are inspiring students and creating futures for those who never believed they had any."

The above was the reason for my posting. As for the relevance to anything, that's for each person to decide on his own and why I put this in the Chit Chat Forum.
