Sweet Repeat II
I am a strong advocate of 2 vs 2. I believe this year's competition was, at times, boring to say the least. I even enjoyed watching 1 vs 1 vs 1 much more than this year's competition. If I had a single suggestion to FIRST, it would be to bring back head-to-head competition, in order to bring the excitement back to the game from a spectator stand-point. This will in turn make the game more interesting from a television stand-point, and allow the number of teams and number of people affected by FIRST to grow as a direct result.
However, all this being said, I also believe that the game should not be modified in off-season competitions. When a team is designing their robot, they design it with a game in mind. When that game is changed, the game is no longer testing the design and implementation of teams and how well they work together. It is more about testing how adaptive the teams are. Just as I would have been disappointed had FIRST changed the game after the shipping date (even if it was to make the game more competitive and exciting to spectators), I would feel the same about off-season competitions.
