Re: 2004 Season for Fantasy Football, FIRST Robotics league
Second half awards:
Most Valuable QB: Peyton Manning (Coco’s Monkeys) I actually mean it this time. The reason he actually didn’t get it last time was because of the Monkeys’ merely average record. But the Monkeys were 5-2 the second half with Manning chipping in an incredible 195 points. Honorable Mention: Drew Brees Rhode Island had a nasty little QB enigma, but they solved it in good form with Drew Brees, who helped lead them to a 6-1 second half. Best Running Game: Priest Holmes & Willis McGahee (Rhode Island Charge) Yeah, Holmes stopped playing in Week X, but McGahee easily picked up the slack. Even missing the last month, Holmes was one of the top scoring backs in the league, and these two made a nasty combo when actually deployed. Honorable Mention: Dominick Davis & LaDanian Thomlinson Philly had a small slip in the last month of play, but they rebounded thanks to great play from these two. Best Receiving Game: Drew Bennett & Darrell Jackson (Nor Cal Crushers) This is almost a given considering all the hoops the Crushers had to jump through to make a playoff spot. Their final surge in fantasy points was thanks to these two. Honorable Mention: Eddie Kennison & Torry Holt Pound-for pound, these guys contributed what they could, when they could for the first-place Cooney Quest. Most Valuable Kicker: Adam Vinatieri (Cooney Quest) Well DUH! That’s a grand total of 84 points the second half. When you consider a lot of Ks don’t even have that all season, you get your answer why he’s alone atop this category this time. Honorable Mention: Matt Stover The Valleygirls had two good things the second half: their defense and their kicker. Well, this is the kicker. In the games the Girls actually won, he played a big part. And even when they lost, he looked good doing it. Most Productive Offense: Toronto Phantom Fumblers They were an honorable mention last time due to a nasty four-game losing streak full of tough losses. This half though, they are 6-1. This productive offense is led by Roethlisberger and Jamal Lewis, accompanied by a bunch of high scorers you’ve never heard of. They made the playoffs too. Honorable Mention: Coco’s Monkeys Manning and Dillon. Even the receivers picked up their games in the second half. Honorable Mention: Rhode Island Charge They’d probably be paired with Toronto had Holmes not gotten injured. But as it stands, Brees and McGahee and the WRs picked up the slack the entire second half. Most Dominant Defense: Valleygirls Another “duh”. Nguyen and Sharper lost a tiny bit of their touch, but they’re still among the best. Baltimore though scored through the roof on the second half. It’s the second good thing on the Girls’ list. Honorable Mention: The Shoats Other than Baltimore, nothing else compared to New England this half. They also have Rodney Harrison. Playoff Picture: Well, at least we have a final playoff standing. Nor Cal surprised us all by making a final surge into the number eight seed. Unfortunately, they have Cooney the first round, whom they lost to quite badly in Week X. The Fumblers left their first-half losing streak behind, securing the number seven spot. They have The Shoats though, who beat them back in Week II. Then again, this was at the start of that nasty losing streak. Rhode Island kept up with the pack, taking sixth. Another good thing for them is that they defeated their first-round opponent the Jets easily back in Week I. The Philly/Monkeys game in Week II went to the Monkeys. But it was close then, and it’ll be close now. Weather or not any of these previous games will correlate remains to be seen. But if it does, the majority of the lower seeds would be out. Okay, I’m done here. Catch you next week for the first round post-game. |

League 2 Quarter-finals Analysis
Rhode Island Charge (9-5) vs. South Fl Jets (10-4)
The Charge can make a living off of Drew Brees and Willis McGahee but Jerome Bettis could make a killing aginst the Giants and LaDaimian Thomlinson could run for the NFL record aginst the Browns. Toronto Fumblers (9-5) vs. The Shoats (10-3-1) The SHoats could be in big trouble this week. No TJ Duckett and Tiki Barber is going against the immovable Steelers D. While Jamal Lewis may be limited playing Nick Goings is a definate sleeper. The Shoats need Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne to make big plays to survivie. Coco's Monkeys (9-5) vs. Ph!lly Cheesesteaks (9-5) The quarterback matchup between Peyton Manning and Daunte Culpepper is marquee quality but the Cheesesteaks have an advantage at running back with Domanick Davis and the suddenly hot Larry Johnson. The Monkey have Corey Dillon but BJ Sams is strictly a kick returner. Nor Cal Crushers (7-7) vs. Cooney Quest (11-3) The Crushers presents a very dangerous opponenet for the Quest because they have a possibly significant advantage at running back with hot rookie Kevin Jones and Fred Taylor while the Quest have Chester Taylor who may be a backup again and DOrsey Levens who is used sparingly. The Quest could use a big game from Brett Farve this week. |

Round I Postgame Analysis
Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals
Nor Cal Crushers (#8) d. Cooney Quest (#1) 103-71 In an upset to last the ages, fresh off their last-second leap-and-bound into the playoffs, the Nor Cal Crushers make their name known by then taking the number one seed out to dinner and leaving them with the check. Cooney played their normal game; generally relying on small but stacking contributions. Key word there: small. Their best contribution came from a defensive effort of 28. But they were simply outplayed by the Crushers. Trent Green led with 22, with runners adding 23, receivers adding 22, and defensive additions totaling 29. In case you can’t tell, that’s the #8 seed moving on. Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals Ph!lly Cheesesteaks (#5) d. Coco's Monkeys (#4) 81-60 After that first game, we know now that anything can happen. And anything happened again (albeit being a one-seed difference). The Cheesesteaks easily amassed an advantage using Daunte Culpepper’s 24. But that’s not all; running added 30. For the Monkeys, they had an underperforming day from Peyton Manning. Dillon was able to tack on 18. Unfortunately, lack of receiving and defense put this game squarely into Philly’s grubby little hands. Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals South Fl Jets (#3) d. Rhode Island Charge (#6) 74-48 Rhode Island was hoping for the pattern of lower seeds winning to hold up. However, they got their butts handed to them on a silver platter. The Charge had nothing going for them. The usually exciting combo of Brees and McGahee paid off zilch. Receivers were also equal in that department. But the Jets had Hasselbeck taking 13, and a hot running game (Bettis and Tomlinson) combined for 30. The Charge took defense, but it wasn’t enough to stop South Florida from moving on. Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals Toronto Fumblers (#7) vs. The Shoats (#2) 68-50 The lowest scoring game produced another upset. For the Phantom Fumblers, this was exactly how they needed it. Their only real opposition came from Tiki Barber’s 10. Toronto was able to go up-and-over with their receivers scoring 24, and an assistance of 16 from the runners. That’s three upsets in four games. Playoff picture: This is what it’ll be next week for the winners. Nor Cal Crushers (#8) vs. Ph!lly Cheesesteaks (#5) South Fl Jets (#3) vs. Toronto Fumblers (#7) Nor Cal still has a long road ahead of them (though I now have someone to root for). They faced Philly in Week VI and lost. The Fumblers also have a tough match, having lost to the Jets previously in Week V. The four losers will also face off in their own little tournament. Cooney Quest (#1) vs. Coco's Monkeys (#4) Rhode Island Charge (#6) vs. The Shoats (#2) That #6 sure is making Rhode Island seem out of place, but as we’ve all seen, anything can happen (especially since The Charge and Shoats never faced in the regular season). The other matchup was last seen in Week VI when Cooney dominated. This is an exciting tourney. Who will win? Will R.I be able to overcome their low seed in the consolation bracket? Will the Jets #3 be all they need to win the title? Tune in next week for the results of Round II. |

Re: 2004 Season for Fantasy Football, FIRST Robotics league
Thanks to Ed and Double-D for your amazing efforts this year! You guys were amazing last year with just one league to cover, but you were twice as amazing this year. =-]
I just have one question: when do the baseball leagues start? ;-] George ~manager of the Dunedain |

Re: 2004 Season for Fantasy Football, FIRST Robotics league
Boy, it sure woulda been nice if my receivers showed up the week I needed them most, and if Fred Taylor decided that he really should have played in his biggest game of the year.
I have to say 3rd/4th is about ten places better than I finished last year... |
