Question How much robotics stuff is on your resumes???

This applies mainly to the students, but I am sure that there are engineers with the same stuff going on thier resumes. I just wanted to know how much of your robotics work has made it to your resumes. For me, it's all I did 3 years in highschool so I put it all out there.

Hey, I do have a bunch of floppies on my wall so why not put all the robotics experience on my resume???

I know some former students that were on our team that went to some career fair and told the people that they were on a FIRST team. They jumped in front of everybody else in line just because they were on a FIRST team. That table was Delphi Automotive. And one of our sponsors, Rolls- Royce has college internship slots at the sophomore level just for people that were on Cyber Blue. They are usually reserved for juniors and seniors. And i bet if people on other FIRST teams tried there that they would have a pretty good shot at getting a spot.

Ok, so Im bored.....

...and I figured it out literally. Turns out FIRST & FIRST related stuff takes up 44% of my resume. And thats a 2.5 page resume

You know, you can really stretch out what youve done for FIRST if you put your mind to it. Ive got separate areas for the RCU, my volunteer work at Kickoff & Nats, and for my work on 237.

You know, a resume should only be about a page. Employers have a tendency to stop reading after that. It's unfortunate but true. Particularly so when you're just out of high school and have little experience.

Matt who at one point had a 2 page resume and then cut it down to one....

When I did my resume to get the job that I currently have (that was 3 years ago), my resume was mostly FIRST.

I haven't redone my resume since, but when I do, FIRST will be a much smaller part, so that it still fits on one page.

As for the size of Resumes, I have always heard that you make it one page unless you have 10 or 20 years experience and everything can't fit on a page.

The other important thing is to tailor your resume to the position you want. If you are applying for a job at FIRST, 2.5 pages of FIRST related stuff might be good

Chill, Matt...

...that was only my college resume...when I go for a job other than the one I have right now, I'll be sure to tailor it to what Im doing (and cut it down, of course).

Unfortunately, FIRST related stuff needs some explaining...

College resume? Er, I've never heard of that. I've heard of college applications but never resumes....

FIRST Resume

I made one up JUST for what I had done with FIRST...I have my reasons, but that's for another post...4 years, and it ends up being a couple pages...you can also see it at my web site http://www.geocities.com/natejsmith/ (click on my picture to get to my bio, then click the FIRST Involvement button)...

On my last job application I had a page and 3 lines of a second page. The letter I got from the company said that I didn't get the job, even though I was way over qualified. Ok, fine, the part that really got me was when they suggested that I shorten my resumee. The extra three lines were an explanation of what I did in FIRST.

Carolyn

I have yet to try to apply for any job, so I guess I probably dont' have any right to add anything to this topic. I have had to fill out all sorts of resume-type forms for things for school or the hospital. I don't do that much on my team or anything at all for FIRST, so FIRST isn't that much a part of them. I have more stuff for academic team and SHS where I'm a captain/officer. I just put down that I'm in FIRST Robotics and that I do the newsletter and help with general clerical duties.

~Angela who thinks maybe she shouldn't worry about how much FIRST stuff is on her resume, seeing that she's not going into a technology field

I've put on my resume that i've been a member of FIRST from '98 to present. Keeps on going just like the Energizer bunny.
