Next years game? Balls or Floppies?

Posted by kyle gilbert.

While sitting in my 1st period class i figured out a little something about all the games in the past few years. In 1998 they used balls, 1999 they used floppies, 2000 they used balls, 2001 ????? could they possibly return to floppies to continue the pattern?

Just thought i would post this to see what everyone thought.

In 1996 they used a combo of big and small balls In 1997 they had inner-tubes Then in 1998 they used the 22 inch balls 1999 The infamous floppies and 2000 of course was 13 inch balls. What will 2001 be ? My guess is Building Blocks what do you all think ?

I would love to see the robots that would be made to play a game with building blocks (and I'd love driving it). See which alliance (or individual team, if they go back to that) can build the biggest tower or something. Maybe put connectors on the top, like legos. But on the other hand, the Lego team may have a distinct advantage...
that might null the role of the human player, but at least blocks wouldn't bounce all over the place.

I am a firm believer that Bally's will be loaded with pinsetting design engineers in the future because we will have bowling pins for scoring objects in next years game!! I AM WILLING TO BET ON IT!! That, and I think it will be realy- really- I MEAN really cool. Think about it- a set of ten grippers to pick up the bowling pins- or maybe a rolling ball that detaches from the robot to knock all of the pins down for scoop collection.... Any other ideas?

Think about this one, you have teams of 2 or 4 or whatever, even one on one. The playing field is made into two equal sized playing fields. Each group to complete the round has 90 seconds to move around some cones, go over a wall, pick up a ball or floppy or football, push something about 10 feet then race back to the finish line. I don't know if this is possible but it would get away from the scoring problem about doubling and tripling. It's best time wins. And on qualifying day the team with the fastest time is the top seed and you go so forth and so on. Just a thought. I hope Everyone is having a fun May and I can't wait for summer.

if that were the case, there would be a tremendous difference in times of the teams that had the facilities for a practice course, and those that didn't. Just my 2 cents

Well, I've heard the pneumatics bag next year will include the tank precharged with 200 ft³ of helium.

Of course, those of us with propeller beanies as standard equipment hardly need such assistance...
