Engineer on team #237, sie h2o bots, from Watertown high school ct and sieman co. In Reply to: Attaching the Gears and sprockets to the shaft Posted by Brian on 1/20/2001 2:50 PM EST: Brian. The easiest way that is normaly the strongest is to keyway the shaft and atachment, A keyway alows you to remove an object off the shaft. Welding is another way but you can distort or damage the sprocket and or shaft, also it becomes harder to remove. A third way is with collets. A forth way is to pin the hub to the shaft by drilling a hole through both and inserting a hardened steel pin or screw. There are many ways more but the four above are the excepted ways proven to last. I hope this helps. nick237 : How do you attach the gears and sprockets to a shaft. We are unable to figure this out since this is our first year. If someone could help it would be appriciated. |
