steel plate weaker?

Normally when the side of the ramp is down and the steel plate is just sitting at the end of the ramp and lying on the ground, the plate is probably just as strong... but when the bridge is balanced, and there is something sitting on top of that plate, you are right, it's going to be a lot weaker, might even risk breaking the plate off the ramp. I think FIRST did this so there will be a longer length on the bridge. We figured out if a robot is to balance two goals on the bridge in between, it will have to be pretty narrow length wise, and now we have a little more room to play with, even though 2" isn't too much of a gain... After all, with the tight dimension in between the two goals, 2" extra space probably made lots of people a lot happier and their lives a lot easier.
