Lightbulb Has anyone thought about this?

I haven't been keeping up with the posts on this forum, so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet....

I've heard several people express their concern over a team winning multiple regionals and/or regional Chairman's/technical awards, stating that such a team would take away opportunities for other teams to automatically qualify for the Championship Event. Well, think of it this way. If several teams do extremely well at their regionals, winning multiple competitions and awards, would this not REDUCE the number of teams in the pool of 2002 automatic qualifiers, therefore allowing MORE teams on the Nationals waiting list to register for the event? Am I incorrect in assuming this?

No you are not thinking about this wrong. The only other angle I can think of is this: If an EVEN team wins multiple awards, more odd teams will be able to attend if all even teams are already going. If an ODD team wins multiple awards, then a smaller number of additional odd teams will be able to attend because the even team whom did not win one will still be able to go to the nationals.

Cool New math works well for Mike here...

Even teams? Odd teams? This math of yours may be new, Mike, but it looks pretty fuzzy to me. I think Thoffman got it right by simple, old-school subtraction for this one. But, remember, Mike: 2+2 can equal 5, if you try hard enough.

Travis and Mike are both right

Both Travis and Mike have good points, and this was discussed earlier in the flurry of dicsussion after the qualification rules were handed down by FIRST.

All in all... the final opinion of many of us was that we would all deal with the rules and compete the best we can... letting the chips fall where they may.

im confused....

I was under the impression thet only the even # teams and any of the odd # teams that win a coverted place at a regional are able to go to florida.
Are there other ways that enable you to go to florida?

Other ways... Well, if all of the even teams are going, and all of the coveted performance spots aer filled and there are still spots remaining where do you think they will go?? Odd numbered teams. In what order??? Will this happen??? Your guess is as good as mine.

Thumbs up I agree.......

In my opinion it would be best if the even teams that are going to the championship event win the awards, but if not the odd number teams must put a good showing as well in order to get points to go!! So, either way work hard and get dirty!!

My Added 4 Cents,
Shelley
