OK.... here is the truth from Jim & Tim [the DT guys]
--------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Duct Tape Users:

Is it Duct or Duck? We don’t want you to be confused, so we will explain. The first name for Duct Tape was DUCK. During World War II the U.S. Military needed a waterproof tape to keep the moisture out of ammunition cases. So, they enlisted the Johnson and Johnson Permacel Division to manufacture the tape. Because it was waterproof, everyone referred to it as “duck” tape (like water off a duck’s back). Military personnel discovered that the tape was good for lots more than keeping out water. They used it for Jeep repair, fixing stuff on their guns, strapping equipment to their clothing... the list is endless.

After the War, the housing industry was booming and someone discovered that the tape was great for joining the heating and air conditioning duct work. So, the color was changed from army green to the silvery color we are familiar with today and people started to refer to it as “duct tape*.” Therefore, either name is appropriate.

Today, Duck® brand Tape is manufactured by Henkel Consumer Adhesives. After thoroughly familiarizing ourselves with the hundreds of duct tapes on the market, we have found Duck® brand Tape to be the most consistent in quality. And, we are delighted with the large array of colors that they manufacture (including camo tape and new “X-Treme Tape” which comes in hot day-glo colors).

Jim and I do lots of appearances promoting Duck® brand Tape and do so without reservation. Therefore, we go by both The Duct Tape Guys, and The Duck Tape Guys. And, we use the words Duck and Duct interchangeably throughout our web site.

So, whether you call it Duct Tape or Duck Tape... you are still using the “Ultimate Power Tool” in our estimation.

--- Jim and Tim, the Duck/Duct Tape Guys

[couldn't they have done it at Disney durring Natl's could they! would have been more fun!]

ps- I reccomend the Xtreeme stuff... the green is just right for use with MOE!

Yea, I was hoping that was a 'copy and paste special,' I would think that you have gone insane if you memorized all that. But that is a good answer to a very good question... Duck or Duct?

Lets just call it Duckt tape.

Good call!!

BTW, I've never done anything uber-crazy with duct tape... made a wallet for my brother, taped people up, etc... nothing too special. However, my cousin's friends did enter the prom duct tape thing - they just put duct tape over old suit jacket/pants/dress - they even used colored duct tape and made corsages and such! The pictures are quite amusing

Duckt ( ) Tape is good but how about the Priority tape you get from the post office FOR FREE. That is fun to use to repair anything or package anything you have to. It may not be as strong as Duckt tape but it does have a pretty design on it . I'll attach a picture later once I get the digital camera from my Dad.

You pretty much answered your own question there. HE wasn't trained or even instructed on the use of power tools. On top of that he wasn't the brightest guy, i gues that's how he dropped it. I wasn't really looking, i had my back turned but that's the way he and others said it happened.
In response to the paycheck thing, we're all off the books so he was kinda screwed. But it was only a sprained ankle and i have a friend who works in the emergancy room, so all i had to pay for was an ace bandage and a brace kinda thing. But still, i was young"er" and stupid

I remember this contest where groups of like 10 people had to bust open a watermelon, eat everything inside, and then duckt tape it back up. That was interesting...

About droping the sawsall, when a blade breaks suddenly and unexpectanly, it can cause you to do several diffrent involuntary responses.
He probally heard it ka-TWANG and freaked, droping it.

i do that too!!!!! well, minus the duckt tape. I just use scotch tape so's it doesn't take the paint off the wall, but i too tape my old aol cds to the wall . Same concept, minus the most important tool.

This summer i was working at an outdoors camp where people regularly used duckt tape for medical purposes. They used it instead of medical tape to keep bandaids on, instead of moleskin to prevent blisters, and instead of an ace bandage to brace someone's twisted ankle. Any time we'd go on a long hike, we'd just routinely tape our feet. Oh, we also used it to tape our pants together cause rock climbers have a bad habit of ripping their shorts right down the butt crack.

7th...or was it 8th....well, that doesn't matter...
Anyway, middle school track...me and a group of friends duct taped a team member for lack of better things to do during a meet...so, he was subjected to running across the field to his next event with his hands tied behind his back and a duct taped uniform...turns out, his mother, one of the parents who were helping out, wasn't too amused, and began cutting him out with her car keys...

Well...that was a stupid story...

It comes in really handy when you need to seal wall and floor seams before painting on theater sets. We used it everywhere.

In the book I have a couple of characters that have done most of their car interior in duck tape.
