thank you. i don't speak for the team, only myself, but i think i can safely say that both of the last two years, we couldn't have done it w/o our alliance partners. and to answer your question, we were able to balance both goals effectively from off of the ramp, in order to return to the endzone and score the extra 10 points.

Best Single Goal Grabber - 66, Never saw anyone do on goal so good.
Someone said 180 for this, techniclly 180 didn't grab goals. They had a tounge thing they put between the pipes. They couldn't back up with a goal. If im wrong please correct me.
Gotta correct you Ogre, since I designed the single goal grabber. The tongue was only used to line it up, since we were usually flying at the goal at high speed. We usually pushed rather than pulled because we got better traction and load transfer - remember the last match in the finals where were trying to pull the goal away from 173 and they were wedged against the side rail? The grabber worked great (toot my own horn) - it used pneumatics with an overcenter mechanism to lock on and lift up. The pneumatics also served as a pretty decent shock absorber while ramming the goal.

Check out the videos of KSC regional on soap108's website (if they're still there) where we pushed the goal and 2 robots over a bunch of soccer balls - won the incredible play award. You can see the mechanism pretty well in that.

Re: Zone Zeal Year in Review

One of my favorite threads from 2001 returns Here are my picks:

Best Bot of 2002
So many bots that were good in so many areas. I won't go out on a limb and pick a single bot.

Fastest Bot
180 - While scouting them I watched a few of their matches and was always impressed with their speed, about 2 secs to the goal. What impressed me even more was that they held a goal in the goal zone until ~1 sec left on the clock and still coasted back to the endzone.

Best Ball Collector
95 - I never saw them in person, but the video was absolutely amazing, a whole line of balls in 5-10 secs. wow

Best Single Goal Grabber
180 - fast, powerful, and anxious to mix it up with other bots and push them around. Exactly what I'm looking for in a single goal grabber.

Best Dual Goal Grabber
Tie between 60 & 469 - Both exremely fast and powerful bots who could rotate the goals on a turret which allowed them to pull opponents across the field at will. I still wish they went head-to-head once.

Best Triple Goal Grabber
71 - no debate, no explination necessary. Hands down the best 3 goal grabber.

Strongest Pulling/Pushing Bot
71 - You could try to push against them, pull them back, anything, but if they got their walkers down they'd just shuffle to the goal zone and bring everything with.

Best Hybrid (Ball Collector/Goal Grabbing Bot)
173 - I only saw them in person from afar, but their speed at picking up and deposting balls impressed me. Not sure how well they controlled a goal though. Other mentionables: 45, 67, 111 , 121

Unfortunately it's been too long since the FIRST season and I know I forgot to mention some bots that deserve it.

Mike

Thank you

Many of the nonnebots are still um... not quite right.. after 1) melting the polycarb mold 4 different times, 2) spraypainting in an enclosed, low ventilated environment, and 3) putting up with over 120 degree heat in that enclosed environment while melting the shell with propane heaters and heat guns.

It's nice to know we're remembered, especially by the 2002 Champions who beat us in quarterfinals at the NE regional

Would have been a very interesting outcome had the lego maniac's bot not blown a fuse

Since we always get left out of these things (Our robots never seem to have any 1 specific feature to reall stand out) so I propose a new category.

Extension

There were a lot of good extensions around here in Philly...

Chuck- Moose sure could do everything

87- What a pole- the first time I saw it I thought you were gonna crack the plexiglass separating the drivers and the field right in half

487- dang- your extension shoots out in like a second- at the Duel on the Delaware I thought it was broken or something then just when the timer read 0:01- bang-

Question

I'm really surprised. Especially with the folks who have posted from 121. Nobody has even mentioned 839 as even worth an honorable mention for the Best Rookie. Remember River Rage, we beat you (teamed with 190) and then at Bash @ the Beach, we won with you (and 155) over 190 and their alliance!

839 was an extremely good robot, especially for their rookie year. At first I saw your robot, I didn't realize that you were rookies. It was only later when I heard your #, that I realized you were rookies.

Your robot was strong, and had a 469 like turn-table which made you master the goals with ease.

Besides having a good robot, they also had a high-spirited team!

Keep up the good work!
