Filling the pneumatics tank

We were wondering whether or not the pneumatics tank has to be removed from the robot when the tank is filled at the competitions, or can we bring the robot along to the 'filling station?'

My understanding is that you can only exchange tanks, not get them filled up.

To that end, I believe you are required to design in an easy in - easy out mounting method.

Someone with the rules handy can quote you chapter & verse, but I believe I have the jist of it correct.

Yeah, I understand that it is exchange only. I foresee some exciting times between finals rounds - the designs need to allow for a quick changeover. I am very impressed with the pneumatic package this year. Too bad that the weight penalty for even minimum use of pneumatics is 10% of the total allowed. And alot of space also. I wonder how many teams are going to decide that the price is too high? We have alot of ideas for pneumatic actions but it may not be worth it. I can see alot of nice SMC stuff setting on the shelf come Feb. 22.

That is the challenge. If you are going to use the pneumatics, you better get the most bang for your buck. 200+ lbs of available piston force might be hard to pass up. Some of the alternatives (motors+gears+mounts+shafts) aren't exactly lightweight.

They were very specific at the workshop.

The tank must be exchangeable. This means no modifications at all including paint or decals.

Your tank is not filled on the spot, it is exchanged only.

Depending on robot configuration it could be a real problem.
