Go to Post I find this ironic. In English class our teacher's tell us how there is symbolism and such, and we don't understand it or think its there. Then FIRSTer's get a Game Hit, and we think EVERYTHING is a symbol and has some significance. - akoscielski3 [more]

Ham Radio At Nats

I was woundering who if anyone has a ham license and if anyone would like for me to set up a freq. for us to meet on at the nats and some guidelines for that channel. I could also set up a low power cross-band repeater in my hotel room (prob UHF to VHF or the sort) if needed.
If anyone is interested let me know and I will start planning this or if you have some ideas let me know also.

my call: KC2FWL

We have at least three hams on our team.

We'll bring a handi-talkie.

Gil is the most famous in national amatuer radio circles- his call is KS4YX. He does a lot of contesting. Check his call on Google.

My call is KR4GZ.

One of our engineers (and I believe his son also) is a ham - I don't remember his call, but we always meet persuing one of our favorite activities (not counting FIRST) - attending Ham Fests. (For those not into amature radio, these are hugh electronic flea markets - and great places to obtain robot parts, computer components, test equipment, etc.)

Do you really need a repeater at nationals? It seems like you could meet on 146.52 MHz and pick an unoccupied simplex frequency. Setting up a repeater down there might cause interference with Orlando's ham operations...

What kind of radios are y'all bringing? I'll probably bring my ICOM IC-T7H H-T.

Are there any hams involved with FIRST in the midwest?

I will bring HT

Well, good idea but I hope we don't cause any robots to get confused. I will bring my Icom ICW4A HT and tune the simplex frequencies. I will also check the Disney repeater. I feel sure that by time the Naionals roll around we may come up with a plan. It is good to know that there are some Hams involved with FIRST Teams. Our Ham Club got the tour of Robot Central and a preview of things to come last October. Needless to say, they were all taken aback by the technology involved with the machine. Hopefully more hams will become involved in the coming years.

I see no need. If you are properly licensed and using legal equipment to do something lawful there should be no requirement to ask permission from anybody.

As a courtesy, you may wish to consult FIRSTs technical people to ensure that your transmissions will not interfere with the competition.

But even if you did interfere they wouldn't be able to stop you. Of course the screaming crowds charging your transmitter position because of interference might change your mind about exercising your rights at that particular place and time...

"It is generally easier to ask forgiveness than permission." - an old boss, there have been so many I forget which one.

On second thought I don't know, but presume you do, what the regulations are for transmitting from private property. I assume the property owner (Disney) could prevent you from transmitting from their property if they wished. So if I checked with anybody it would be Disney.
