sad to see again team 157 not getting a award. They didn't get one in PA but took top first place in seeding and finals.

they hold the high round for the day and still nothing I guess there robot and team has to fight for there award. which isn't up to the judges.

I guess the best way of getting a award is to earn one without the judges input.

I guess you didn't understand. this is the third time they have been at a regional and still nothing to show other than winning the regional and being the number one seed.

They have not won a judges award yet. so the odds are pretty good they won't win one.

So they do it on the field.

Explain to me how a team can be #1 seed and not get a award for their robot. and then win the regional and still not get a award for like great robot good control or good design. They are number one why is the award given to a team that is not half as good as them.

I could go on but I will stop at this.

I tried doing screen captures of each team, but Windoze Media Player just didn't want to cooperate on my laptop.
Does anyone have pix that they'd liek to share?

Also, Tom S. from 177 is digitizing a la SOAP style and uploading to http://www.soap108.com/2002/events/ct/movies/
Way to go 177!!!!! I think part of the coolest thing is we have never spoken to each other with voice, only text over email and these forums.

Thanks,

Thanks Mike Norton!

I have to agree with him to a point. Our team, like Mike's and many others are totally student built. We have competed in 3 regionals seeding 8, 1 and 1. We lost in the semis in LI and NE and we won in Philly. After all of those matches, we have YET to have to make a repair to this machine.

I can't speak for the rest of team 157, but I have felt that we have been overlooked. The Motorola Quality Award is well deserved. Thanks to all that voted!

what was changed on 157's robot? we were teamed up with 157 for the Long Island Finals and you deffinately weren't as efficient picking up balls. we lost at new haven in the semis too. we were the 7th seed. our robot was in 11 matches total and we won 9 of them, that's not bad. we only lost 1 qualifying match (due to broken robot) and we also lost 1 semi final match (also due to a broken robot)

i would like to thank our allies, teams 716 (awesome power) and 175 (the buzz)

unfortunatley, we did not win any awards, we didn't win any at long island either. but we had fun.

look for us at disney.

The biggest change I saw was that they changed wheels. They now use 4 of the 6" pnuematic tires supplied in Small Parts (same ones as 173). If you've seen 157 or 173 at UTC, you'll agree they work great.

About balls..? well, I always thought they worked well with balls.

Steve is right. In Philly we changed to the pnematic wheels and it made a huge difference. Also, In LI we used rookie drivers, in Philly and NE we used our veteran team. We also added a bracket in the front of the robot to more efficiently collect balls from the rail.

Go team 157!

We had the pleasure of having our pit beside the Azteks at UTC. Totally class acts.
Sorry guys that we sheared a pin on our drive wheel during our match - we were busting our tails to rebuild the entire transmission so we wouldn't let you down. Turns out - to your credit - that you didn't need much help. 138 points with a disabled partner - go Azteks!

Thanks 166!

We feel very good about our robot. Personally I have been involved in some capacity since 1992, and I can say without hesitation that this is our best machine ever, and we've had some VERY good machines in the past! It is just too bad that we will not be able to participate in the nationals. There is always next year though!!!!

ive found that FIRST likes to distribute the awards a little bit..... if the team is REALLY deserving they might get more than one, but most of the time if a team already has an award the judges will give it to the second place pick

thats why regional winners hardly ever get the quality award and such... they like to spread it out

remember this is just my guessbased on observations, so dont plant it as a fact
