A question about scoring.. Stack hieght...

okay, so if we have a stack of 2 boxes "nesting" in each other, we have a multiplyer of 2. If they are not nesting, this stack would be a multiplyer of 3.. Okay so here is my question, if there is one box in the scoring zone that is positioned on its side so that it is 24" tall (this would be one of the smallest sides on the box) would this be a multiplyer of 2? I am thinking no because its not a "stack" of boxes.. However my team is saying yes and the rules do not clarify... what are your opinions..

team update.

FIRST has issued a team update that states that the rules been changed, scoring of boxes that are not complete SHU is now rounded down..so it doesnt matter if you have 1 box in any orientation, its a multiplier of 1. if you have 2, it's 2. etc. the update is on FIRST's website..

according the the clarification of this rule in update #1, that stack is still considered as being a multiplier of 2.

box on it's side

if you go to the FIRST website, one of the updates states that fractional portions of containers will be rounded down. *eg* if a container is stacked upside down, even though it crosses the SHU marker, it will not count as a whole extra box. so basically even if one box is on it's side, it will not count as two

This image is pretty self explanitory. One thing to note, however, is that the height of the multiplier stack in wSHUs (whole Stack Height Units) is subtracted from the total number of bins in your side, so even if you managed to get a multiplier of 4 from a stack with 3 bins in it (as in the stack on the far right), four of the bins on your side wouldn't count towards you base score.

The strange thing about the scoring this year is that it's possible to get a negative score. Assuming the only stack an alliance had was the one on the right of the picture and that there were no robots on the ramp. That would mean that you'd have a multiplier of 4, 3 total blocks - a multiplier of 4 giving -1 scoring blocks. This means there would be a total score of 4 * -1 or -4.
