the new drills are hella powerful this year, our team last night ran them with the helical gear setup...the setup really sucks. since u are using helical gears, it puts horizontal pressure on the shafts resulting in the retianing clips to shoot off the shafts, no ta good sign, when u are testing out the set up, but no worries, our team is gonna make our own mounts and things
o btw, running with the 10" skyway wheels, the drills on the high speed high gear setting proved to be very difficult to control. Bad |

We pulled out the drill motor and the lead just popped out. Didn't even take 5 seconds.

We had the exact same thing happen to one of our drill motors.. It could not be fixed.Needless to say no one was very happy about it.

other stuff
i guess we're pretty tame, all we did was let me put the assemblies together, where first I did it without washers, denting the plastic, then re doing it where the washers were a tad bit too big for the assembly, so of course I forced them on, bending them backwards and folding them over, and scratching the plastic as well. we also dragged last years robot out of cold storage, and found later, that some class held in our room found nothing better to do than play with the shiny robot and kick it like a soccer ball, luckily they didn't find the hacksaw...

One of the rookie teams we are mentoring had something similar happen. When we were opening the drill motor box, there were very small plastic shards in the packaging. Seeing them was my first clue that something bad was lurking within. The whole brush assembly popped out when I picked up the motor because one of the mounts for the brushes was broken.
Sorry Al, nobody had a camera so no pictures. Since it wasn't dropped by us I had them call FIRST and see about a new motor. I haven't heard what came of it yet though. |

I will surely bring this up at our electrical meeting tonight. We will examine the motor a little closer than we have so far.
