Question Qotw [01-19-03]: Predictions of the game...

Hi all. Just wanted to know what people think will happen in this year's matches... So, here is a list of quick questions I want to ask...

Question 01/19/03:

What's the highest stack an alliance can do in a match? How often will that happen?

How many stacks will there be in an average match?

On average, how many stacks will fall during a match?

On average, how many bins will be pushed to the none scoring zone?

On average, how many robots will end up on the ramp?

What modes will robots have for the autonomous period?

How many % of robots will go under or above the bar?

How many robots will not be able to get over the ramp the first few matches?

What's the shortest time it take a robot to get up the ramp in the first 15 seconds?

How often will an alliance get all the bins in the center to their side of the field?

Have fun! Wait for more questions in the middle of the week...

-Ken L

I think 7-8 seconds will be average to the center wall of bins. A lot of teams will do it in 5-6 secs. Maybe a couple teams will be there in 4 seconds.

Re: Qotw [01-19-03]: Predictions of the game...

Well, most of my "predictions" are just random guesses, but I
ll give it a shot.

What's the highest stack an alliance can do in a match? How often will that happen?

15, and it will only happen 5 times.

How many stacks will there be in an average match?

Five.

On average, how many stacks will fall during a match?

Four.

On average, how many bins will be pushed to the none scoring zone?

Ten.

On average, how many robots will end up on the ramp?

Three.

What modes will robots have for the autonomous period?

Search-and-destroy, plow the middle, get to the other side, go under the bar.

How many % of robots will go under or above the bar?

25%

How many robots will not be able to get over the ramp the first few matches?

About 10%

What's the shortest time it take a robot to get up the ramp in the first 15 seconds?

4 seconds.

How often will an alliance get all the bins in the center to their side of the field?

1 in every 5 matches.

Re: Qotw [01-19-03]: Predictions of the game...

What's the highest stack an alliance can do in a match? How often will that happen?
I don't think anything will go beyond the original 8 set up at the beginning, and even then, I don't think those will stay too often.

How many stacks will there be in an average match?
Probably one larger one, with little stacks of 1 all over the place

On average, how many stacks will fall during a match?
I stay most stacks that are made will fall in a match

On average, how many bins will be pushed to the none scoring zone?
I don't think many teams will worry about that, so probably only a few on any given match.

On average, how many robots will end up on the ramp?
I'll go with 2 on this, mostly because off all the pushing and shoving that's bound to happen

What modes will robots have for the autonomous period?
probably line tracers and dead-reckoning machines will be in the majority. I don't see many teams taking advantage of the retro-reflective tape on the human player bins.

How many % of robots will go under or above the bar?
around 75%, sorta like in 2000

How many robots will not be able to get over the ramp the first few matches?
not quite sure what you mean by this

What's the shortest time it take a robot to get up the ramp in the first 15 seconds?
probably around 5 seconds if a machine is meant to do that

How often will an alliance get all the bins in the center to their side of the field?
never. common sense says you want the opponent to score something for your own QPs

Re: Qotw [01-19-03]: Predictions of the game...

What's the highest stack an alliance can do in a match? How often will that happen?
Average, guessing, lots of little 1, 2 stacks all over the place, highest of like, 6

How many stacks will there be in an average match?
many tiny ones

On average, how many stacks will fall during a match?
Stacks that are higher than 4 will fall... so most of them made should fall I think

On average, how many bins will be pushed to the none scoring zone?
like, maybe 5-10 of the 45 bins total.

On average, how many robots will end up on the ramp?
2. On an unlucky match, they'll end and all of them'll somehow touch the wire

What modes will robots have for the autonomous period?
Seems like more deadreckoning, but some line-ing

How many % of robots will go under or above the bar?
I'm guessing 1/3

How many robots will not be able to get over the ramp the first few matches?
(Due to technical difficulties? that would mean at regionals...) like 5, I guess...

What's the shortest time it take a robot to get up the ramp in the first 15 seconds?
Get up the ramp, 4~5 seconds. Knock down bins, 2.

How often will an alliance get all the bins in the center to their side of the field?
ALL the bins? Very very seldomly occasionally.

Question 01/19/03:

I'm guessing WildStang stacks them 20 high in one match - mostly to impress everyone - and it will work.

How many stacks will there be in an average match?

6-ish. 2 HP stacks, and 4 additional stacks created by one/both alliance(s).

On average, how many stacks will fall during a match?

2-3.

On average, how many bins will be pushed to the none scoring zone?

5 on average, with 20-25 bins being pushed out every 4-5 matches.

On average, how many robots will end up on the ramp?

1 on average, with mostly 2 robots or no robots finishing on the ramp.

What modes will robots have for the autonomous period?

Seek and Destroy, Line Following, Dead Reckoning.

How many % of robots will go under or above the bar?

25%

How many robots will not be able to get over the ramp the first few matches?

Every team we get partnered with. Just kidding. 10%

What's the shortest time it take a robot to get up the ramp in the first 15 seconds?

On average, 13-15 seconds. Shortest, 6-7 seconds.

How often will an alliance get all the bins in the center to their side of the field?

Two times per regional / division.

Have fun! Wait for more questions in the middle of the week...

-Ken L

Question more question of the week 11/19/03

Hi all, sorry for the delay. Been really busy with non-FIRST businesses, ie cooking C=.

Anyway, here is a few more questions I want to ask, and this time its more about the robots than the game.

Have fun!

-Ken L

How high of a stack can a robot build in one move? On average, and the highest? In other words, if your robot is only allowed one motion to move a stack onto another stack, what's the highest you can stack up to?

How many robots will have a device to get themselves locked on the HDPE? And how many of those will be suction cup?

How many robot will protect a stack by holding onto the whole stack completely?

How many robots will be able to steal a whole stack? How many of those do you think will not get tipped when they try to go over the ramp while an opponent is waiting for them on the other side? How many will dump the stack in the non-scoring zone instead of risking the ramp?

If robots have a device to knock over bins, what's the highest height of bins they can reach to? On average, and the highest?

Do you think any robot will handle two stacks at a time?

On average, how long will it take a robot to get over the center bar?

And finally, how many robot will choose to drive backward, go over/under/through the bar and run into the other team? How many will try to track the line and get to the top of the ramp? How many will go after the human player stack?

Good luck everyone!
