Quick questions for any Robotics history buff -
1. How many of the original 28 teams are still around? 2. Who won the Chairman's Awards in 92-94? mod: Also, what exactly constitutes a "Judged Award" at Regionals and Nationals? Is it everything but "Incredible Play" or just the Judges Awards or is it the ones that get you AQs in this year's competition.. they should really be more specific. Not counting the original teams (I think that there are less than 10 and at least half of them qualified based on last year's performance) or the Chairmans award finalists from 2000 and 2001 (again, less than 10 with about half of the teams qualifying for other reasons anyway), I came up with about 65 teams that are currently qualified for the 2002 Championship.
I did give points for divisional Champion, Finalist, & #1 seed at Nationals. I did not give points for "Play of the Day" because it is not a judged award. I did give points for "Special Judges Awards" (almost always 2 per event). These are just educated guesses, FIRST may feel differently. |

It is sad that there will not be many rookies at the nat's next year. Although my team quailfies (1 regional win and a design award in 2000) one of the teams that we are helping this year does not get to go. It is sad, that all their hard work will not make it to the National Championship.

Current Points Race Standings.. heh
Note: These tallies take into effect the #1 seed and Rookie #1 seed awards, but none others. This list is based purely on performance, and I have a glut of teams currently sitting on 4 or 3 points with a possible award.
Nevertheless, until I heard from someone exactly what a judged award is, congratulations to the following teams headed to Nationals 2002. 71 (12 - MW Winner, MW #1 Seed, WM Winner, WM #1 Seed, Newton Winner, Newton #1 Seed) 254 (11 - SoCal Winner, SoCal #1 Seed, SV Winner, SV #1 Seed, Archimedes Winner) 33 (10 - GL Winner, WM Winner, Archimedes Winner, Archimedes #1 Seed) 85 (9 - GL Winner, WM Winner, Curie Winner) 365 (9 - MA Finalist, PA Winner, PA #1 Seed, Newton Winner) 111 (8 - MW Winner, WM Finalist, Archimedes Winner) 60 (7 - S.V. Winner, Curie Winner, Curie #1 Seed) 74 (7 - MW Winner, WM Finalist, Archimedes Finalist) 56 (6 - MA Winner, PA Winner) 75 (6 - MA Winner, Curie Winner) 175 (6 - NE Winner, MA Winner) 177 (6 - NE Winner, Galileo Winner) 294 (6 - Socal Winner, Newton Winner) 343 (6 - SE Winner, VA Winner) 538 (6 - SE Winner, SE #1 Rookie, Archimedes Finalist) 713 (6 - NYC Winner, NYC #1 Seed, NYC #1 Rookie, Newton #1 Rookie) 47 (5 - NYC Winner, Curie Finalist) 103 (5 - MA Finalist, PA Winner) 115 (5 - S.V. Finalist, Curie Winner) 125 (5 - NE Finalist, Newton Winner) 256 (5 - SoCal Finalist, SV Winner) 301 (5 - WM Winner, Newton Finalist) 312 (5 - SE Winner, Archimedes Finalist) 501 (5 - NE Winner, NYC Finalist) 144 (4 - GL #1 Seed, Archimedes Winner)*** 349 (3 - Archimedes Winner)*** ***note: These teams were National Finalists, and I'm guessing that being a National Finalist is a seperate award worth an extra 2 points, pushing them into Disney 2K2. |

190 has been a participant from the beginning, plus we make it on the point system for being a regional winner & having won awards last year
I have to say, I didn't think FIRST would limit it this year, but the system they devised seems to be decent-- better than anything I could have come up with! And so we'll let this one play out like we did 4v0 this year and all the other fanatical things FIRST conjures up ;-) |

217 is in (I think)
Team 217 is in (I think). We were Divisional winners at Nats (3 pts) and we won the sportsmanship award at Motorola Midwest (2 pts). I am still waiting for confirmation on the definition of judged awards.
One other thing, we changed school districts (although all the students from last year are still on the new team), but not sponsors; we are battling to keep the 217 number ... for obvious reasons. -Paul |

To answer the original question, 126 has been in the competition since 1992, so I guess we automatically qualify.
