I think it went something like they built two identical robots, shipped one, and kept the other for practice.

Sheesh. Why don't they give that money to another team that could use it? We barely have enough money to finish one robot :/

It is entirely possible to enter 2 bots in a comp., team 177 did it at battlecry (come to think of it, that was an off season comp.) but they split their team up into 2 seperate teams, made 2 indentical bots, and played against each other in one match, let me tell u, that was cool, trying to beat your own team!

i belive truck town terror (68?) did that this year for an off season comp as well.
There are many teams that build two robots and keep one at home for practice. Of course the second is not done by the deadline, but it gets done soon after it so that the team can start practicing with it.

Yes, at IRI Truck Town Thunder had a practice bot, so they split their team up into boys and girls... they had team 68, Truck Town Thunder, and team 998, Truck Town Lady Thunder.

Your telling me... battlecry that year was nuts... we ended up getting First place and last place... for some odd reason 177.5 did not get picked. Weird - but yeah it was wierd playing against my teammates.. but the good thing was either way we still won

As for entering 2 robots into 1 regional: no, you cannot do that... at least per team. It's in the rules, I believe.

You could create another team, but that would be costly. Then again, if you have enough $$$ to build 2 robots, I'm sure you could fork over $9000 for registerring another team.

Off-season competitions are a different story. Talk to the organizer and I'm sure they'll let you compete with your second robot. The more competition the better, especially since the competition is so scarce there.

There's nothing stopping a team from making two robots if they have the time and money. However, a team may not enter two robots in an actual FIRST competition unless they are entering as two teams (each team competing with one robot). Like JNadke said, off-season competitions might be different - talk to whoever is running it!

This was also done at the Kettering Kickoff, and strangly enough, the girls ranked better than the guys at both events...

Just because you can build to robots doesn't mean you have a ton of money coming into your team. From what i have heard, quite a few verteran teams are able to create a secondary robot for practice. RAGE had a practice and a competition robot this past year. We are also lucky enough to have a small practice facility DONATED to us. And it helps to have that practice bot so more team members can get involved in all the steps of the team like driving and things like that. Also it allows our team to have practices to see who will drive and who will be te human player and things like that. And then once that happens even though the ceilings are low it still give the human players and drivers a chance to work with each other.

We made a second robot for practice with spare parts after the ship date. I talked to a guy on Bellarmine's team, and he said they are entering 3!!!! robots. He told me that they were fixing up their 2000, and 2001 robots and entering them also. I wish we had the kind of money and time for that =/

2 robots one competition one team no. 2 robotos split the team in half and give it a different name 1 competition should work just find. it mentions it somewhere in the rule 1 robot per school per competition. think of it like this. NASCAR drivers bring 2 cars to the track a backup car and primary car. only one can be entered. if the primary car gets wrecked in practice you just break out the back up car and start at the back. FIRST should do this.

FIRST would probably say that it was an unfair advantage to veteran teams who have figured out how to use the parts wisely to be able to create a second bot.

I am on a veteran team, and we still dont know how to use the parts wisely , no j/k, I dont believe that that is a issue, it is more of the idea to make the bot to work efficently
