Robot Rodeo - What a Blast!

Thanks to Team 186 for sponsoring a Great season opening event this weekend, the Robot Rodeo in Kissimmee, FL. We're thrilled to walk away with the champion trophy alongside ComBat, but we were excited just to be there. Our rookies got a little taste of what FIRST is about, and we got to try out some new drivers since our A-team graduated. We even had some guys get some stick time who had never had their hands on the controls at all, even at our home pit.
Side note - the white nubby brekoflex belts will never darken our robot again. The have a higher friction coefficient than the green ones ( we measured 250# on the robot traction test stand with a 130# robot) but we ripped both of them in half in one day (we just put them on the week before). At $250 a pop can't afford to do that. OUCH! We're getting pretty good at changing them out though - got the time down to about 6 minutes.
To all the teams that were there - Thanks for making us feel welcome. We're proud of every team that puts in the time and effort, regardless of where you finish. We've been in last place alot more times than we've been on top.
Andy, Barbara, Don, Lori, Jon (whoever you are, why did people keep calling your name?), I wish I could remember everyone's name - We had a blast and you can be sure we'll be there again next year.

I agree

The comp was very fun, and that isn't just bc of how we finished. I would have to say in my 4 years of robotics those were some of the closest matches I've seen. Most were decided by less than 5 points, and there were two ties, and a match won by 1 point in the finals. Many thanks have to be given to 186 for hosting such a great event, and to 108 (helped keep us running in the comp) and 665 who was strong all day. Also would like to wish luck to the two rookie teams there. 1068's drive team worked very well under pressure. The Florida teams, imho, play and compete the hardest when they're together. I'm glad we were able to finally work with SPAM, and I hope everyone else had as much fun as we did.

I give lots of thanks to that team for hosting. I also was really glad we finally got to team up with SPAM. This was my first year on the team, and those matches were really intense. Good job to ALL the teams that were there. Everyone did great.

I give you guys shiny brass bushings and you go and beat us. I did appreciate the shirt you guys gave me! Some very intense matches, I only wish we had been given enough time to fix our own problems so we could really have given it our all. Thanks to 665 for being such a great ally.

The robot rodeo was definatly a sucess, I talked to some people and they said they are going to probably have another one next year and try and make it bigger. Thanks to team 179 for picking us. And thanks to everyone for putting on such a good show for the newbies that everyon brought there. and hey we came away with the team spirit award and congrats to the finalists, thoes were some intense matches! I hope that next year we get a strong florida alliance that does well at the competitions.
