Are you positive that you set up your Internet Connection Sharing on the server properly?
Go to (client): Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt Type in IPCONFIG Your IP addres should be something like 192.168.0.2 Your Default gateway should be 192.168.0.1 Unless you customized the default IP on the server. If you aren't getting that, then either your network settings on the client isn't set up correctly, or Internet Connection Sharing on the server is not configured properly (or both). To properly enable ICS on the server you have to go to Start > Settings > Network Connections (double click). Then, right-click the Dial-up connection you want to share... then there should be something like "Share this connection"... click that. It should take you through the wizard.... On the client, to make sure your settings are set properly, you can go to Start > Settings > Network Connections (double click). Then on the left help panel there should be an icon that says "Set up a home or small office network". Click that. Follow the wizard. You should select that it connects through another computer. If it still doesn't work another solution could be this. If you have crappy (cheap) network interface cards sometimes you may have to force it to 10mbps... some network cards have problems auto-detecting the maximum speed. Start > Settings > Network Connections. Right click Local Area Connection and hit properties. Hit configure under the network card. Under the advanced tab there are some settings. One of them will let you select your network speed. Select 10BaseT (not full duplex). This will be most compatible. Hit okay and reboot of course. If it still doesn't work... either you did something wrong or the problem is in your network setup. Are you using a crossover cable to connect the two computers? Usually this cable is yellow. You need a crossover cable if you want to connect them directly. If you are using a HUB, then you can use regular cables. Last edited by Jnadke : 19-11-2002 at 18:11. |
