Übergeeks scouting database, and the competitions

The Übergeeks now have a database up for scouting. All you can currently do is enter data for your team, but the search and other capabilities will be up before the first regional.

I'm sure you guys think that's all good and great and all, but what good is it going to do you at the competitions right?

Well the Übergeeks have it under control (hopefully).

We're going to setup a server at St. Louis and at Nat's that holds all the current data in the scouting DB. This will allow you to search current data. This will also allow for easy addition to the database in real-time because it will also give you the ability to go in and add data. This data will then be dumped back to our database on the Internet and can be used by all.

The way this will work is we'll have a server and a hub. You just come up, plug into the hub, and open a web browser to the ip address (probably something like 192.168.0.4). The scouting page will come up and you can do what you wish from there.

What we need is teams to step up and run a server at other regionals. If you are willing to do this, please PM me and i'll give you the details about getting the script and all that jazz.

Thanks a lot.

what if...

cool idea, but it also brings 2 questions to my mind:

What happens if you get 2 entries for a single team? and what if they contradict each other?

there can be more than one entry per team.

if they contradict each other, it's very likely we'll approach that team and ask them to validate the entry.

that's awesome (I just registered our bot)
However, might I suggest that you allocate a space for teams to upload a smile picture of their robot? It makes recognotion sooooooooooo much easier

yes yes that's in the works i very much planned on this, but i'm experimenting with either using mySQL as the picture daemon or just having them upload it to a file...i just don't want to run into duplicate files like "robot.jpg" and all that...

not sure, but pictures will be added tonight

You could go for the pseudo-rando filename. Or just incremental. Or team number. Heh.

(Anyways, my scouting DB is dead...thanks to all the people that wanted Windows on it making it totally unuseable)

More updates on how this will work:

the data will be dumped to our database on the internet every night at our hotel (atleast in st. louis where we'll have broadband).

there will also be the option of connecting to the server wirelessly (we have an airport access point).

your computer will need to be configured for dhcp to connect to the server (we can help you with this if you need it).

I'm working on the picture script right now!

more updates on the way this will work:

we will setup wireless access to the scouting database. we'll also be setting up a forum (maybe chat room) so people can sit around and chat.

all you'll have to type (once your network is properly configured) is 'www.firstubergeeks.com' and you'll be brought to our minisite with scouting database, forum, and team info.

you can now add your data with a picture. the search will be up this afternoon (i'm about done...).

enjoy, and please help me find bugs and stuff

This looks really useful. So you will have wireless access at the competitions? Plan on seeing me at both St. Louis and Nationals. I've added our robot to this, and I'll probably help out scouting other teams with it to, if you want.

It's the end of the second day in St. Louis, and I don't think anyone's made use of this!

I'm posting this from the social

Anyhow, if anyone reads this that's at St. Louis, come by 1028's pit and post your team's data or connect wirelessly (setup DHCP on your computer and navigate to http://10.0.1.5 in a web browser)

Hope to see you all there!

Hey, good job Übergeeks! I used the database...I uploaded a few matches of ours while I had time, and I looked around on it too. Keep it running for nationals, I'll keep my information up to date, along with others too.
